Michael and his wife Debbie came to Yachats from California. He grew up and attended school in St. Louis Mo. In 1967 Michael enlisted in the US Navy and served four years of active duty in Vietnam. After his time in the Navy, Michael attended the University of Missouri St. Louis and graduated with a degree in Marketing before gaining many valuable experiences during twelve years working for two large, multi-national companies.
Michael brings a diverse background in civil service, corporate staff management, and non-profit volunteerism coupled with a driving motivation to contribute to improving his environment. From his corporate experiences he brings skills in establishing high-quality, effective outcome-oriented interpersonal skills. These skills support VtF in promoting partnerships to achieve organizational goals. In addition to the private sector, Michael brings valuable skills from his past and current role as a Commissioner on the Yachats Parks and Commons Commission and as an active member of the Yachats Trails Team. As a Commissioner Michael understands local civic standards and resources and how to work collaboratively for the planned and unplanned priorities of a city.
With this trifecta of participation in City government, ongoing work with Yachats Trails, and work with the brilliant, caring, and diverse, yet like-minded, members of the View the Future board, Michael has effectively completed his search for community participation and personal balance.
