Donald Slyter, Chief of the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians was invited to speak at the Conference for Racial Equality and Understanding produced by Yachatians for Social Justice on July 23, 2023. Chief Slyter asked Joanne Kittel, Co-chair of View the Future to join him as they have made several prior presentations over the years. Their presentation is called, “Bridging Cultures Healing Hearts: Significance of Telling Historical Truths and Earning Trust.” Unfortunately, Chief Slyter was not able to attend and present at the conference due to illness. He asked Joanne to make the presentation without him with the understanding that when he is feeling better and stronger, he will return and do the presentation in Yachats in the future.
