View the Future created and installed seven interpretive signs which sit on the Ya’Xaik and Amanda Trails and depict our local First Nation history. We are so grateful to our partners without whom the sign project would not have happened:
- Confederated tribes of Siletz Indians
- Confederated Tribes, of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians,
- Three Rivers Foundation,
- Oregon Community Foundation,
- Angell Job Corps,
- and the Yachats Public Works Department.
Most of all, this project was inspired by the family and friends of Ben Christensen who was going to be a central partner in this project but died in August 2015, doing one of the things he loved most, working on the Amanda Trail. The signs have been an important means to educate local citizens and hikers, increasing their understanding and appreciation of our local First Nation History.
With the weather conditions that occur in our beautiful environment, the signs need ongoing care. Michael Guerriero, Michael Hempen, and Joanne Kittel, VtF board members recently did just that, they washed, sanded off the rust, and painted the frames and legs with anti-rust sealant.
