We have had changes afoot for our board. Craig Berdie has resigned from the board as his time will now be filled with the duties of being the mayor of Yachats – Congratulations Craig. Also DK Foster has resigned from the board as other priorities have called for her time. We wish both Craig and DK well.
Now to introduce three new members to the View the Future Board of Directors:
Jesse Dolan
Jesse is currently employed as Central Coast Destination Coordinator, Oregon Coast Visitors Association and is deeply involved in Lincoln and Lane counties and widely involved in the central Oregon coast businesses, Arts, and local communities. As a third-generation Oregon coast native, Jesse cares deeply about this incredible stretch of coastline he calls home and is committed to protecting and enhancing the natural beauty of the land and sea.
Most recently Jesse has had success with what he refers to as a “work of passion” with the Waldport Council to approve naming the new Waldport Park after Louis Southworth, a slave who bought his own freedom in the mid-1800s, homesteaded near Waldport and donated land for the first Waldport school. He also obtained an artist to create a life-size bronze sculpture of Southworth for only the cost of the materials. This will be a wonderful legacy that will live on in Waldport. Jesse brings knowledge and passion for protecting this natural area along with many local connections in business, arts, and government to his role as a Board member of View the Future.
Liz Byrd
Liz is a Yachats resident and Retired Systems Analyst. Liz’s background includes management of many IT software projects and decades of experience with software implementations and client relationships. She can take complex ideas and serve them up to non-technical people in an understandable way. In such projects, communication and information storage, and presentation are key to ensuring a successful project.
Liz loves to take people out in the Yachats’ backcountry so that they can become familiar with and knowledgeable about what is out there. She states that when people get out there, they start to care and ask questions. Next, some want to get involved in conservation as they begin to understand that much of the forest is not really protected for the long term. Liz has extensive “in-person” experience with our local forests and ecosystems. She is an effective teacher and is knowledgeable of technology that will assist VtF as we continue to grow.
Hui Rodomsky
Hui is Currently employed as the South Coast Regional Representative, Oregon Coastal Management Program, Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development.
Hui is an environmental scientist with over 10 years of experience in the conservation, restoration, research, and management of marine and coastal systems. She has special interests in coastal ecosystems, coastal communities, and coastal governance. Hui is a resident of the Yachats area and joins VtF to contribute to improving the Yachats watershed, ecology, and water quality. Hui’s experience in state and local land management/conservation/restoration activities will be highly valuable to VtF as we continue our mission to preserve and protect the natural environment in the Yachats area.
