Charlie Bartsch was a View the Future board member from 2008 to 2018. He was ‘Our Man in Washington DC’ , with expertise in watershed and environmental issues.
Charlie died in 2018 and in his memory, VtF erected a 600 pound stone at the north end of the Amanda Trail where it crosses the Kittel property. The stone sat on an easement where a logging road could possibly be built, so it had to be moved.
Oregon Parks Recreation Department came to the rescue, and Brian Fowler, South Beach State Park Manager, Doug Sestrich and Phillip Landis used heavy duty equipment to move the rock to the Amanda Trail entrance near where Joanne Kittel and Charlie Bartsch planted cedar trees in 1998.
VtF thanks OPRD for helping to save Charlie’s memorial stone.
