DK was born in San Francisco and moved south with her family until she decided at 18 yrs. to move back to her roots in Sonoma County Ca. There she studied nursing with a focus on childbirth and midwifery which she enjoyed until she became infatuated with the environment and its protection.
DK joined the Sonoma Conservation Corps and ran a single corps crew focusing on stream restoration and stabilization throughout the county. Moving to Marin, she worked with the Marin Conservation Corps where she was given many opportunities to develop unique programs combining seniors and high-risk youth … and also met her husband Jocko Doss. After that their combined passions were manifested in the restoration and development of the 1750-acre Marin County Office of Education – Walker Creek Ranch. DK describes these times as one of her most creative opportunities in the development of a sustainable organic garden, ranch store, and ongoing Elder Hostel Program. A short stint with the Marin Agricultural Land Trust leading educational tours for the public lead to a passion to educate the public about the protection of our wildlands.
The past decade has been focused on being a Death Doula … someone who assists and guides families through the dying transition. A most rewarding opportunity that DK still involves herself within our local community.
My love of nature and its preservation and restoration is what compelled me to stay involved in my local community,” she states, “a lifelong passion.”
