The McKenzie River Trust (MRT) was founded in 1989 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, public benefit organization in 1990. Since then, MRT has grown to be a regional land trust, conserving and protecting more than 5,000 acres of land in western Oregon. MRT has been a partner and a resource to VtF in past and current projects. (https://mckenzieriver.org )
This year MRT has added a staff member who will be located on the central Oregon coast to continue their mission. Margaret Treadwell is the new MRT Central Coast Conservation Manager. Recently Margaret met with some of the VtF Board members on a lovely day in the Yachats Community Garden to hear about our organization and activities, and then joined in a hike. Margaret has a rich background that brings her well prepared for this position.
Margaret joined MRT in July 2021.
- She holds a Master of Natural Resources degree from Oregon State University, where her capstone project focused on coastal wetland restoration and carbon offset projects.
- Prior to joining MRT, Margaret was the Program Coordinator for the Friends of Cape Falcon Marine Reserve in Manzanita, Oregon, and led a project to identify and propose priority rocky shore areas on the North Coast for State conservation designations.
- Before coming to Oregon, she managed international relations for the California Air Resources Board.
- In her free time, Margaret enjoys exploring the Oregon Coast, from tidepooling to mountain hikes. (https://mckenzieriver.org/staff/margaret-treadwell/ )
The VtF Board looks forward to our continuing partnership working on shared goals with MRT and their new Central Coast Conservation Manager Margaret Treadwell.
