Water Matters
Welcome to our first entry on of “Water Matters”. “Water Matters” is part of a View the Future educational effort to share information regarding our water resources, watershed and water usage with residents and visitors alike. We firmly believe that Water Matters.
Let’s begin. “Where do we get our water?” Like many small, rural communities along the Oregon Coast, Yachats draws its water from surface water sources. In our case, we pull our drinking water from two non-fish bearing streams, Salmon Creek and Reedy Creek that flow down towards the Yachats River from the north side of Yachats River Road. That water comes from rain fall and rare snow fall and is filtered naturally by our watershed. Once gathered, the water is piped to our water treatment plant where it is filtered and treated and then sent on to our freshwater holding tanks for further distribution to the community. This system relies totally on our annual rainfall, on a healthy watershed, and on our well-run water treatment plant.
Across the world, in our country, state and county it has become increasingly clear that water matters more than many of us ever thought. We encourage community members and visitors alike to be “water aware” because water matters. Look for more on this from us.
