View the Future Receives Grant from Three Rivers Foundation for the new Amanda Suspension Bridge.
Several board members of View the Future traveled to Florence on February 21, 2019, to accept a generous grant of $10,000 form the Three Rivers Foundation. Three Rivers Foundation is the charitable arm of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians
View the Future applied for this grant to help fund a new suspension bridge across Amanda Creek. The old bridge was destroyed in a landslide on December 18, 2015. It was thought by many experts that a suspension bridge would be more likely to survive a similar event. In collaboration with many federal and state agencies, we were able to obtain FEMA’s permission to replace the fiberglass bridge with something entirely different and more expensive. To raise the extra money not covered by FEMA disaster funds, View the Future has been working hard to secure grants and donations. We are very grateful to the Three Rivers Foundation for helping us in our efforts. The new bridge will be a welcome addition to the beautiful Amanda Gathering Area.
Doug Barrett, Tribal Council Member, and Three Rivers Foundation Trustee presented the check to John Purcell. Mr. Barrett was generous in his praise for the work of View the Future and our Co-Chair, Joanne Kittel, who’s granting of a conservation easement on her property made the Amanda Trail possible.
