View the Future has raised $70,000 toward construction of the Estuary Boardwalk Project. Funds have come from generous individual donors and the dollar opt-out program set up by the Fireside 804 Fund administered by VtF. The opt-out program adds $1 per night to a guest’s bill. They have the choice to ‘opt out’ and get the $1 back, but most folks accept the small addition.
Joanne Kittel and Michael Hempen, VtF Board members, were appointed to a City workgroup to develop a boardwalk plan along Ocean View Drive for pedestrians.
Various Yachats Trails and VtF members including Loren Dickinson, Bob Langley, Wally Orchard, Michael Hempen, Joanne Kittel are working with Yachats Public Works members Lynn West and Rick McClung and architect Kevin Shanley.
A recent grant application with high citizen support was written by Bob Langley, but was not accepted due to delays in property transfer from Lincoln County to the City of Yachats. Once the transfer is approved, the City will likely reapply for the OPRD (Oregon Parks and Recreation Department) grant.
The next hearing for road transfer is August 7. Both the City and View the Future will testify. It is anticipated that the road transfer will be approved, possibly by September. VtF continues to hold the donations in a restricted fund.
