At the July 17 meeting of the City Council Executive Committee, it was agreed unanimously to pursue negotiations with the property and timber owners of 20 acres south of the city owned by Clemente Rocha. The purpose is to avoid the clearcut of these 20 acres in the Yachats viewshed. The City awaits both land and timber appraisals.
Acquisition of the Landmark property was also discussed by the Executive Committee. Acquisition would allow the cleanup of the remains of the former derelict building. Possible uses for the site include a viewing platform, the continuation of the 804 trail, a stop on the Oregon Coast Trail, and a safer walkway for pedestrians.
