“Much to the disappointment of many, vast layoffs at Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept., including Jeff Wagner Project Manager for the Coast, has resulted in the Amanda Trail Suspension Bridge project being tabled indefinitely.”
Only a few weeks before this notice, the project was given the go-ahead to be constructed this fall since most of the funding was already secured as View the Future announced in the previous Newsletter. The layoffs were not anticipated. Dennis Comfort, Coast Manager, has assured VtF that the bridge will be built one day. It has not been canceled, but he cannot anticipate when engineering staff can be rehired for the coast. All partners and major donors involved with this project are sad to hear this news but have not faltered in their commitment to support this project when the go-ahead is given. View the Future deeply appreciates the time, generosity and support of the City of Yachats, Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund, Three Rivers Foundation, Siuslaw National Forest and Discover Your Northwest, Lincoln County Commissioners, and their Land Legacy Program, Angell Job Corps, Lincoln County Corrections crews, and the many donors including Nan and Greg Scott for their long-term support of this project. We also recognize the hard work, passion, and dedication of Jeff Wagner and the many staff at OPRD over the past 4 years for their work to nearly make this bridge possible. “We will not give up, and will notify you as soon as we know when it will be moving forward again.”
