The Amanda Trail Suspension Bridge Project is expected to start in the fall of 2020.
Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept (OPRD) has been hit hard financially by the closures as a result of the restrictions needed for the safety of all. They have had to make financial cuts, including canceling projects scheduled for 2020. Planned projects were reviewed and only a few are being allowed to go ahead, one being the Amanda Trail Suspension Bridge Project. The decision by OPRD was based on the previously committed FEMA funds and the grants received and donations raised by View the Future including contributions from the foundations representing the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz. The City of Yachats contributed last year to the engineering plans and the Siuslaw National Forest contributed funds from their Cape Perpetua Trails Donation Fund. OPRD hopes to begin bridge construction this fall.
This 175-foot bridge sitting 25 feet above the Amanda creek will ensure the protection of the Amanda Trail portion of the Oregon Trail and provide a unique forest experience.
