Following the death of Betty Bahn, the VtF Board sought a way to honor her for her many contributions. Betty was a long-time Yachats resident, friend to many, native plant & bird expert, retired nurse, and one of the initiators of the Commons Wetland Park, Betty was insistent that there not be a bench, monument or other major remembrance in her name. In respect of her wishes, VtF has had a poster created and with City approval, added to the kiosk behind the Commons describing the history of the Wetlands Park, and naming the local volunteers including Betty who despite opposition pushed through its creation. The Wetlands Park has become a favorite of locals and tourists with its boardwalk through the pond where natural plants and birds can be viewed and enjoyed. This town owes so much to so many local volunteers who have generously given of their time and talents. Here is but one example, others can be viewed on the View the Past page of the VtF website.
