Water sustainability and conservation has become an increasingly important environmental issue on the coast and elsewhere. The View the Future Board has identified water protection and sustainability as one of our priorities for this year.
Sam Hillman, the Coastal Conservation Associate has prepared an informative document describing an overview of the water resources in the Yachats area that we want to see shared. In it you will find answers to: where Yachats’ water comes from? who owns the land it is on? how much water do we need as a community? What is our plan in case of water scarcity?
“This document is a general overview of the City of Yachats water system. It outlines sources, rights, watershed area, water infrastructure, usage, and finance. This document is a compilation of facts and information gathered to educate citizens and local leaders about the water system in Yachats. “(Yachats Water System Overview by Sam Hillman, Nov. 2020).
Currently, the Water Master Plan for the City of Yachats is undergoing a scheduled 20-year update. The master water plan is projected to be completed by the end of 2021. As a sub-section to the master plan, a Drinking Water Protection Plan is being created to characterize the current risks to the water system. Sam Hillman and representatives from the View the Future Board attend Water Protection meetings.
