In planning this year’s 11th Annual New Year’s Day Peace Hike, the Yachats Trails Committee’s top priority has been safety. Thus, we will be changing from the traditional Peace Hike format and ask that instead of gathering in one large group this year, you instead conduct your own individual hike(s) or other special rituals of peace that are meaningful to you (while also following COVID-19 government safety directives.)

We suggest you start the day by taking time to watch a video of Patricia Whereat Phillips, Miluk Coos Tribal member, linguist, of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians (CTCLUSI) narrating the Amanda story.  Go out, walk local trails, meditate, sing, breathe peace into a sprig of cedar, speak out against injustice… whatever is in keeping with achieving or maintaining peace in your heart is the right thing to do. You can also then pick up a Peace Hike button created by Morgan Gaines, Quuiich (Lower Umpqua) Tribal member, CTCLUSI, which will be available at the City Visitor Center, Yachats Chamber office, or send an email with your name and mailing address to yachatstrails@gmail.com.
